Dreams, Discord and Desire

Artist Nathan Lewis gives a gallery talk discussing his inspiration and process.

This lecture will be followed by a reception from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Skylight Gallery.

Nathan Lewis is a California born painter and artist. He received his MFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He also studied at theFlorence Academy of Art in Italy and in St. Petersburg, Russia, and received a BFA from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, and universities. His work is in private collections in N.Y., Conn., Mass., Calif., Oreg., Germany, Russia, and India. His paintings have been on the cover of numerous books and journals. His work has been published and reviewed by The New York Times, The New York Press, International Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, Art in New England, Big Red and Shiny, the Boston Globe, and the Huffington Post among others. He has received multiple grants, including the Connecticut Commission of the Arts and a URCG grant to research painting in Belgium and France. He has been the recipient of multiple residencies and has given lectures on his work at institutions throughout the U.S. He is currently a tenured Associate Professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn. and represented by Fernando Luis Alvarez Gallery.

This event is part of the lecture series accompanying the exhibition “Dreams, Discord and Desire: Nathan Lewis at OUMA,” on view September 5 – December 6, 2015.
